Hi, I'm Kit!
Founder, owner, and lead editor here at Kit Lane Editing, I am extremely passionate about all things writing and editing. My goal was to create a safe, reliable, and accessible space for independent authors to find editing services. As a writer and editor myself, I know how daunting the process can be once your manuscript is finished. Here, my aim is to de-mystify the process, make things user-friendly, and provide quality feedback to fellow authors.
My Story
Kit Lane Editing was born out of encouragement from family, friends, and one of my graduate school professors. With eleven years of editing experience working for a small hybrid press, I decided to take the step to break into freelance so I could provide my editing services more widely. An avid fantasy reader, I have been a part of writing communities and spheres for a very long time. As I prepared to start edits on my own manuscript, I realized for indie authors there is an overload of resources out there with conflicting information. Editing is a tough process because it involves exposing work you might not feel is perfect to scrutiny, often by others, and that can be intimidating. When I set out into the freelance world, my hope was to help authors find the right editor for them, to help educate writers on the different types of editing, and provide a transparent look at the editing process.
Why choose me?
I come with eleven years of editing experience, teaching experience, and I'm currently working on my graduate degree in Creative Writing and Literature at Harvard.
Credentials aside, I am a highly passionate writer who believes in giving quality feedback. I stand firm that feedback should always be constructive, objective, and actionable. It is also important to me that we are a good fit - you should feel comfortable and confident that I share your views for your work and support your unique writing style and voice.
Perhaps most importantly, though, I am fun, flexible, and easy to talk to. I've been a part of this industry on both sides of the fence long enough to remember how hard it can be to advocate for yourself and your writing. I'm prepared to do that for you the same I would for myself.
